In the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and far too many other Black people, folks in every state are rising up to say #BlackLivesMatter. Many protesters have been taking to the streets for years; some are newer to civic action. In 2020, there are many threats to protesters: environmental hazards like heat stroke, police-inflicted injuries, the risk of arrest and, of course, the coronavirus. Although I am not an expert on protester safety, I pulled together this information from the Do No Harm Coalition, Paper Revolution and the University of California at San Francisco medical community. I hope these points will help protesters fight for a better world as safely as possible.
