On Tuesday, Ivanka Trump weighed in on an art installation that has garnered attention recently for its provocative premise: A woman dressed as Trump vacuums crumbs tossed by visitors.
“Women can choose to knock each other down or build each other up,” the first daughter and presidential adviser herself tweeted, with a link to a story about the exhibit. “I choose the latter.”
During the installation, which is also being live-streamed, the Ivanka-like figure runs a vacuum over a “plush pink carpet,” onto which visitors are invited to toss crumbs from a pile sitting on a white pedestal nearby.
“‘Ivanka Vacuuming’ is simultaneously a visual celebration of a contemporary feminine icon; a portrait of our own relationship to that figure; and a questioning of our complicity in her role-playing,” declares the website for CulturalDC, which is sponsoring the installation at the downtown Flashpoint gallery.
“The viewer throwing crumbs, and Ivanka vacuuming them, is not a stand-in for one feeling, one relationship or one point of view toward this powerful and sexualized female form,” the website says.
Ivanka Trump’s brother Donald Trump Jr. is also not a fan. “Sad, but not surprising to watch self professed ‘feminists’ launching sexist attacks against @IvankaTrump. In their crazed world, sexism is OK if hurts their political enemies,” he tweeted Tuesday. “That’s ok, they can go put on their stupid hats & she’ll get back to actually fighting for women.”
