Here’s why I miss the mindless, in-between moments of my pre-pandemic routine

I thought cutting out that time would make me more productive, but that hasn’t been true

I never appreciated the in-betweens: those routines you go through every day on your way to the next activity, the mindless tasks you can do with your eyes closed. Since work-from-home and the pandemic, those moments have slipped away without my noticing. Only now do I realize I miss the weird, thoughtful, creative places my brain can go while waiting for something else to happen. Perhaps the in-betweens were more important than I realized.
