When I was deciding how to illustrate pieces of advice for a recent newsletter — in which we asked readers to send us the nuggets of wisdom that got them through 2020 — it was only natural for me to turn to collage.

I’m a collage artist who uses the medium to process emotions, and it had a big role in getting me through 2020. There’s nothing better than sitting on a floor pillow in my living room, putting on a show or music and cutting out pieces of paper with scissors. Or sifting through my boxes of cut paper. Or spreading ideas out all over my coffee table and trying different combinations of imagery and words. It’s a meditative and soothing practice I often get lost in.

Although these collages were created digitally, I took the same approach. I read each piece of advice, put on some music and got to work. Phone and desktop backgrounds are available for download below.
