Seattle-based entrepreneur Kristina Roth, a former chief executive of a consulting company and the founder of SuperShe, a female-oriented lifestyle blog, has created SuperShe Island – a private location that will accommodate 10 people in four luxurious cabins off the coast of Finland.

It’ll also be completely man-free.

The requirements

Roth is particular about who gets to stay on her island, and she picks the visitors herself. Applicants must undergo a vetting process through her website. Here are some of the qualifications:

- You need to identify as a woman.

- The website also asks you to submit an optional Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn profile.

- There’s a mandatory section that asks, “Why are you excited about the SuperShe community?”

- According to this report on CNN, Roth is looking for visitors with “amazing” personalities that are “upbeat and cool” she says, “because you’re on [an] island and that’s what’s going to make it fun and exciting for everyone.”

The goal

The goal is for her guests to be able to escape society’s pressures and “embrace an all-female energy.”

There will be “spa amenities, Finnish saunas and facilities,” according to a description on the site.

Criticisms

Roth’s very subjective qualification process and the anticipated price of a stay – which hasn’t been disclosed but is likely to be high – has some detractors who suspect the retreat will feature a decided lack of diversity. But Roth rejects this argument and insists her island will be a place designed to be without sexual tension and inclusive of anyone who identifies oneself as a woman.

Next steps

She plans on opening the island, located on the Finnish archipelago known for its rocky landscape and warm waters, this summer. If successful, her next step is expansion to Turks and Caicos, where she also owns properties.
