Having never fully adopted Christmas or Thanksgiving, this time of year always makes me feel acutely out of place. I observe the holidays with the distance and curiosity of an outsider looking in. For most of my life, I wondered, “What am I missing out on?”

Now, I’m not sure I’m missing out on anything.
